HOUSTON, TX – Dec 07, 2015 - Expect law enforcement to be extra vigilant with patrols and DWI enforcement during the period encompassing the 2 week holiday period leading up to New Year’s Day. Expect a heightened law enforcement presence along Interstate 10, Interstate 45, and especially in urban areas like Houston, Ft. Worth, Dallas, Austin, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Amarillo, and other major population centers in Texas.

Avoid Being Caught in the Net

Police look for a number of signs when making a determination of whether or not stop a motorist. If a motorist has made a series of sharp or wide turns, drives too fast or two slow, or has taken actions behind the wheel to draw the attention of patrolling officers, they’ll be stopped. By avoiding these common mistakes motorists should be able to avoid the inconvenience and embarrassment of being detained by law enforcement on the basis of suspicion of drunk driving.

Based on the statistics of traffic fatalities in major cities during the holiday period, one can only be thankful that police statewide are working to ensure the safety of the public.

DWI Statistics & Deaths: The Numbers Don’t Lie

According to the Texas Department of Transportation’s report entitled Fatal Crashes and Fatalities by Month and Road Type, December is a month that ranks among the highest for traffic fatalities in Texas.

The 2014 Statewide Traffic Crash Rates report offers some insight into why DWI enforcement and increased patrols are so aggressive in Texas’ urban centers. More than twice as many traffic fatalities occur in urban areas as in rural areas making the cities prime targets of DPS led DWI stings.

Penalties for Drunk Driving in Texas

The first penalty that will be experienced by anyone arrested for DWI in Texas is Administrative License Revocation. This is a purely administrative process in which the driving privileges of the accused are revoked until further notice. The suspension of the Texas Drivers License can occur prior to the defendant having their first day in court and is indicative of the aggressive nature in which the State of Texas penalizes those charged with DWI.

Houston DWI Lawyer Tad A. Nelson is adamant about people taking advantage of the 15 day period to motion the court for an occupational license. With implied consent laws in Texas, and the odds being stacked against the offender, its important take a defensive position on your case as soon as possible.

Accusations of DWI MUST NOT Imply Guilt

As an ACS/CHAL Lawyer Scientist, Houston DWI Lawyer Tad A. Nelson is always clear to his clients, the court, and the prosecutors in that if the science doesn’t match the accusation that the defendant is not guilty. “The science is all that matters.” A Board Certified criminal lawyer per the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Tad Nelson is among the leading DWI lawyers currently accepting cases in the Houston area.
