“Almost all mold analysis done in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand is performed immediately (with no growth culturing) and the mold counts in this alternative, non-viable analysis are skewed upward big-time because both living and dead mold spores are counted in such non-viable analysis,” added Mr. Fry, who became one of the nation’s first full-time mold inspectors in January, 1999.
“Such indiscriminate counting of dead mold spores is especially unhelpful and inappropriate in the mold analysis of clearance mold tests taken after the completion of mold removal and remediation projects for flooded Texas and South Carolina homes and commercial buildings because two of the most effective mold remediation steps (high output ozone gas and spraying and fogging with EPA-registered fungicides) provide almost total mold kill in remediated buildings but the killed spores will still be counted in subsequent non-viable mold lab analysis,” further explains Fry, who is also a Certified Environmental Inspector, Certified Remediation Specialist, Certified Mold Inspector, Certified Mold Remediator, and Certified Duct Cleaning Specialist.
