CORONA DEL MAR, CALIF. - Hanley Investment Group Real Estate Advisors, a nationally-recognized boutique real estate brokerage and advisory firm specializing in retail property sales, announced today that the group is launching its fifth annual Movember campaign to raise funds and awareness for men’s health during the month of November, by growing moustaches and moving. Last year, Hanley Investment Group exceeded its goal and raised $27,000. The group was ranked #39 out of nearly 23,000 teams nationwide (the top 1% in the U.S.) in the fundraising effort. This year, Hanley Investment Group hopes to exceed last year’s amount.
Hanley Investment Group joins a global movement to help fund programs specifically focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity by growing moustaches as a team. Since 2003, the Movember Foundation has empowered millions of men and women to join the global men’s health movement. Through the moustaches grown, the connections created, and the conversations generated, the Movember Foundation has raised over $650 million and helped fund 1,000 breakthrough men’s health programs in 21 countries.
“This cause means a great deal to me as I lost my father to prostate cancer in 2009. I don’t want other families and individuals to have to go through what we did,” said Ed Hanley, president of Hanley Investment Group. “Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men in the U.S.” Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15-34 in the U.S., Movember reports.
This year, the Movember Foundation introduces MOVE, a 30-day physical fitness challenge. Hanley Investment Group’s “Mo Sistas” will commit to some type of exercise or movement every day to help raise funds for men’s health and improve their own health.
“Sitting is the new smoking,” said Hanley. “We all know exercise is good for us, and most of us could stand to do a little more. In fact, moving on a regular basis can reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer by up to 50%.”
Approximately 2.3 million deaths each year are attributable to insufficient physical activity, according to Movember. Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality. Approximately 41% of men in high-income countries don’t exercise enough.
Hanley Investment Group’s Movember “Mo Bros” will raise funds by seeking sponsorships for their moustache growing efforts. The Hanley Investment Group team will reach out to their friends, family and clients to support their fundraising efforts while posting their progress online.
A “Shave the Date” is set for the team on November 1st, when the men start clean shaven. Then, for the rest of the month, these men, known as “Mo Bros,” groom and trim their moustaches to effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November.
“We are a close group that enjoys a culture of camaraderie and competition, so it is great to come to work and show off our moustache progress or, in some cases, the lack thereof due to some members of our team being ‘follicly challenged’,” said Hanley.
“It is also great to see that the Movember Foundation is including the MOVE campaign so everyone regardless of whether or not they can grow a mustache can participate,” Hanley added.
