Coming into 2015 the New York Mets were 2-2 in the World Series with their last win coming in 1986 when they knocked off the Boston Red Sox. The last time the Mets reached the World Series was in 2000 when they competed in the Subway Series with the New York Yankees. When the Mets came into camp in the spring the Washington Nationals were the team that many believed to be the kings of the National League East. A few mid-season trades changed that and the Mets advanced to the playoffs with a 90-72 record, seven games better than the Nats.
The fortunes of the 2015 Mets changed when they added Yoenis Cespedes at the trade deadline. All Cespedes would do after joining the Mets was hit .287 with 17 home runs and 44 RBIs. His success in just 57 games made some say he could even be the MVP of the National League and it would be hard to argue with the fact that the Mets could not be where they are today without him. Once the calendar turned to October it was another Met that carried them. Daniel Murphy has become the “Homerun King of October” with his 7 home runs thus far during this postseason.
On the mound, the Mets will have on any given day in the World Series some of the best talent at the position. Starting game one will be Matt Harvey, who could be called on to pitch two or three times in this series despite his inning limit and the controversy surrounding that, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and one of the top young closers in the sport, Jeurys Familia. These talented arms could be all the Mets need to win their first title in nearly three decades and send the Royals home in the World Series for the second straight season.
