ORLANDO, Fla. - In honor of Red Ribbon Week 2015, and to support prevention and awareness of substance abuse, the drug testing firm, X-celerated DNA & Drug Screenings will be hosting several events during the week of October 23 – October 31. Parents are encouraged to visit X-celerated on Wednesday, October 28 between 1:30PM and 4:30PM to get a free instant urine drug test for their teenager. The first 100 tests will be free on a first come, first served basis. The tests are offered to parents who have a suspicion of their teenager abusing substances.
The theme of the Red Ribbon Campaign is, “Respect Yourself. Be Drug Free.” X-celerated believes that, “Our children have the right to grow up drug free – and we have the responsibility to make that happen.” According to X-Celerated, “The United States represents 5% of the world’s population and 75% of prescription drugs taken. 60% of teens who abuse prescription drugs get them free from friends and relatives.”
Children are encouraged to color and submit their best “Drug Free” artwork. At the end of the week, X-celerated will randomly select one contestant to win a gift card to Hukoo’s Family Fun. The coloring contest will start on Monday, October 26 and run through Friday, October 30 in honor of Red Ribbon Week.
X-celerated will also have $10 OFF a 5-Panel or 10-Panel Instant Urine Drug Test for residents in Central Florida, which have judicial matters or other family matters that require a drug test. This special offer will only be valid on from Monday, October 26 through Friday, October 30 in honor of Red Ribbon Week.
Resources such as DoSomething.org, ClickOrlando.com, The Florida Department of Education and DrugAbuse.gov confirm that, “Teenagers are not the only ones using drugs.” According to the 2013-2014 data from the Florida Department of Education, 23 elementary schools across Central Florida reported at least one incident of drug use, sale or possession on campus. Local 6 compared numbers from the 2014 Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey and nearly 17 percent of students in middle schools said they’ve tried an illicit drug. This includes 7.9 percent smoking marijuana, 8.1 percent trying inhalants and 3.9 percent taking prescription pain relievers.
By the time they reach high school, 9.9 percent of students said they’ve tried synthetic marijuana – known sometimes as K2. Nearly 33 percent have tried smoking marijuana, and 8.2 percent are taking prescription pain relievers.
