Inpatient care is handled in a professionally designed atmosphere that not only provides constant supervision but a healthy, motivational environment.
Inpatient detoxification centers are medically-supervised institutes that assist addicts with ridding themselves of their dependency upon drugs or alcohol.

The timeframe for an inpatient detox process varies, but can be anywhere from seven to fourteen days. Throughout this time, the mental and physical conditions of the patient are carefully monitored during the detoxification process. The core idea is to monitor them both physically and mentally, properly addressing the withdrawal symptoms that are particularly most difficult throughout the entire detoxification process.

Why Inpatient Care is Necessary

Although not all addicts prefer inpatient detox care, it is important for several reasons. The judgment of an addict is blurred. It is impossible for an individual to recognize the severity of his/her condition. Often alcoholics suffer from more than one psychological disorder, and the recovery process always triggers the worst of all symptoms. Clinical depression and suicides are the most common. In such an unstable and disruptive situation, the experience of withdrawal effects must not be left unsupervised. Inpatient care is handled in a professionally designed atmosphere that not only provides constant supervision but a healthy, motivational environment.

Inpatient detoxification care is proffered to medically assist with the following withdrawal conditions, which could otherwise prove fatal: Cirrhosis, delirium tremens, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding and seizures.

Self-detoxification is often uncomfortable; however medical intervention can reduce this discomfort. Medication to control the cravings, painful withdrawals and stress serves as fuel to the recovery process. Additionally, an environment of people struggling towards the same cause is highly motivating, helpful and supportive in the patient’s reaching their goal of a positive change.

Benefits

In certain situations, inpatient detox is not necessary. An individual who is more stable and has suffered less from the hands of drugs/alcohol would be allowed to go through a private detox process with little or no medication. However, the inpatient detox always provides more benefits than an outpatient process. It eliminates the chances of being demotivated by the recovery process; patients who go for an inpatient rehab facility are 50% less likely to relapse. According to research, continuous counseling and support brings feelings of positivity and comfort, and hence, is more effective than outpatient programs.

Psychologically speaking, a recovering addict always feels uncomfortable and unwelcomed in their society. It is only positive help and support that brings faith back into their lives. Inpatient detox settings are often more helpful in increasing the faith of addicts, rather than challenging them to recover on their own.
