The Institute for Veterans Education and Training (IVET) along with Gatling Pointe Yacht Club hosted the 1st Annual Isle of Wight Military Benefit and Watercraft Expo raising $12,700 to support veterans, their spouses and/or children who are seeking to further or advance their education by establishing the Isle of Wight Scholarship Fund.
Applications will be open from September 14th, 2015 to October 31st, 2015 and procedures are posted on IVET. Scholarships will be awarded on November 11th, 2015.
The Isle of Wight Scholarship Fund’s purpose is to provide educational financial support for military spouses and children of disadvantaged military families. Funds can be used but are not limited to the following: traditional 4 year colleges, community college courses, technical certifications, IVET transition courses, approved leadership development programs and personal trauma recovery courses.
“Many people in the community and beyond teamed together to raise over $12,000 for local veterans and military families,” said Brigadier General (RET) Jeffrey C. Horne, IVET CEO. “This show of support and dedication to our nation’s veterans and their families can and should replicated in every community across the nation.”
