SANTA FE, New Mexico—December 9, 2015—The most traumatic event in a child’s life may be when that girl or boy is removed from their home and put in foster care. The experience is often confusing, scary, and painful. At any given time, there are 500,000 American children in foster care. Awarding-winning authors and former foster parents, Rosemary Zibart, and illustrator Sandi Wright have collaborated on a new, sensitive picture book, “Kit Coyote: A Tale of Hope,” for these young people that encourages a sense of resilience and artistic self-expression. The story is gentle and kindhearted and comes from the child’s point of view. Foster children have a lot that’s new in their lives — foster parents, a CASA worker or court-appointed advocate, social workers, therapists, a judge, and new friends at a new school. By using charming animal characters like Kit, a coyote pup, or the social worker, Kathy Rabbit, or the foster mom, Rayna Fox, or the therapist, Bruce Hedgehog, Zibart and Wright appeal to children and avoid stereotypes.
“Kit Coyote: A Tale of Hope” understands the mixed feelings a child may experience about his or her biological family and the challenges of the new situation. A former journalist Zibart frequently wrote on behalf of at-risk and vulnerable children including a PARADE feature about the Heart Gallery, a nationwide program that connects adoptable children to waiting families. She and Wright want their book to be utilized by anyone who may have contact with a young foster child including social workers, police officers, court advocates, CASAs, therapists, foster parents, teachers, doctors, nurses, or court officials. However, to publish this book and get it in the hands of children who need it, Wright and Zibart need help. That’s why they launched a Kickstarter campaign for KIT COYOTE: A TALE OF HOPE. The goal of this project is to raise $17,347 by December 29, 2015. The funds raised will go towards art direction, final illustrations, printing, promotion and distribution of a thousand copies of the book. “The more money we raise,” says Zibart, “the more books we’ll publish.”
To help bring this gentle and kindhearted book to market, please visit the Kickstarter campaign or click here. Perks will be delivered between January 2016 and March 2016.
Please keep in mind this is an “all-or-nothing” deal, which means if the campaign does not reach the funding goal then the project cannot move forward. So know that any amount given can make a difference, and this is an incredible opportunity to be a part of a special campaign! Help “Kit Coyote: A Tale of Hope” reach the goal by sharing this on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. The more people know about this, the more support the campaign will receive. And the more foster children will benefit. Plus, a portion of any profits from the book’s publication will help local CASA organizations (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children).
