Home care is about quality of life and safety, I consider those goals to go beyond the home. Diabetes is practically an epidemic in the United States. If these people care enough to form a Diabetes Club and learn how to remain active, I am happy to offer staff for this endeavor.

Sherry Picker, MSW and Michelle Gozar, BSN, RN will co-facilitate the group at the Clubhouse in Kings Point, Delray Beach, Florida. Kings Point is a well-known “over 55 Retirement Community. The “Diabetes Club” meets the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. and is open to all Kings Point residents, at no cost.

Arlene Hershkowitz from We Care of Kings Point, Inc. says, “The group has petered out a bit so we are very excited to begin the New Year with a new team to grow the group. Of about seven thousand residents, there are many people who can be helped by receiving new information. The Club meets through May, 2016.

Kathy, an 89 year old member of the group explains, “you read and hear so much about Diabetes that it is confusing. I get down thinking I am alone with this. Attending the Diabetes Club lets me talk to others fighting this fight and I can ask my questions in my own time to a real nurse just for us.”

Ms. Gozar, an experienced licensed nurse adds, “I am looking forward to bringing diet, exercise and research information to this Club. Diabetes is a disease which needs to be constantly monitored and managed.”  Ms. Picker says, we plan to make the group very interactive and bring in examples of good foods and foods which can be considered poison for folks with Diabetes”.

Linda LeMonte, owner of Paradise Home Health Care believes strongly in community engagement and education. Ms. LeMonte explains, “Home care is about quality of life and safety, I consider those goals to go beyond the home. Diabetes is practically an epidemic in the United States.
