On September 24th, 2017, The Scranton Times-Tribune announced the winners of the 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards, listing McCarthy – Remick Flowers as Best Florist.
The Readers’ Choice Awards allows readers of The Scranton Times-Tribune to vote for Scranton’s best local businesses. Voters cast ballots among five main fields: Home and Service, Recreation and Entertainment, Dining and Entertainment, Wellness and Personal Style, and Shopping. This year, McCarthy – Remick Flowers won “Best Florist” in the Best Shopping category – for the second year in a row.
“On behalf of the entire McCarthy family, I would like to earnestly thank Scranton readers for once again voting for our flower shops,” says Kevin R. McCarthy, family owner. “It has been a privilege to serve the Scranton area over the past 65 years.”
McCarthy Flowers began as a mom-and-pop Scranton florist in 1952 called Bud McCarthy’s Bokay Shop. Business boomed under Bud’s ownership. In 1978, Bud’s son Brian and his wife Erin took over the shop; furthering its growth, and expanding into three locations: McCarthy Flowers, McCarthy – Remick Flowers, and McCarthy – White’s Flowers. The McCarthy Family maintains ownership today; now with the help of Brian’s son Kevin, and Kevin’s wife, Julianna. The couple joined the floral industry full-time in hopes of inspiring a new generation of flower-lovers.
