Just be sure to ask the seller if their packaging is indeed airtight and suitable for storage,” the HAGA seed expert advised.
The second storage tip is keeping the non gmo heirloom seeds in a cool and dry environment. Heat, light and moisture should not be able to access the seeds. For short-term storage, a cool place that’s under 70°F is the ideal spot. A basement or cellar is good for this purpose. Stored this way, the seeds will last for 5 or more years.
For longer storage, refrigeration is a good option. Keep the seeds in the fridge and they will last for at least 10-15 years. For very long-term storage, freezing is best. The non gmo heirloom seeds can easily go for decades if frozen, making it ideal for survival preparedness.
The third storage tip is labeling the seed containers. The date and specific variety must always be listed down so it’s easier to organize the seeds and determine which batch they came from. This is very helpful especially if one has a huge heirloom seed collection.
