Houston-based Linbeck Group is ready to begin construction on the Academic Complex at Texas A&M Galveston. Dubbed by TAMU as the “front door” of the campus, the project will be positioned to provide the fourth side of the campus quadrangle. The Academic Complex, which will be an icon for the University, will occupy a prominent location at the front of the campus entrance and the first facility visitors, prospective students and guests will see upon arrival.

Houston, TX – November 20, 2015 - Linbeck Group, a Texas-based, technology-driven building construction firm, received notice to proceed on phase one of an academic complex at Texas A&M University at Galveston.  With a $37.5-million price tag, the first phase is scheduled to start in November and is expected to be completed in 396 days. Prominently located at the main entrance of Texas A&M University at Galveston (200 Seawolf Parkway), the new academic complex is ideally situated to provide an iconic welcome to visitors, prospective students and guests upon arrival to the island institution.

Anchoring the campus quadrangle, the multi-purpose, four-story facility will feature 85,710 gross square feet of academic classrooms, computer labs, a one-stop-hub for enrollment services, faculty and administrative offices as well as shared lobby space for exhibitions.  A multi-purpose conference room plus informal gathering and learning spaces are a complement to the adjacent student success center.

The exterior façade consisting of polished concrete masonry units and architectural metal panels will feature aluminum-framed, hurricane-rated glass curtain walls to provide an abundance of natural light.

“We’re thrilled to once again partner with The Texas A&M University System to construct an iconic complex that will underscore the overall campus experience while integrating the University’s academic, student service and administrative goals,” said David Stueckler, president and CEO of Linbeck Group.

Celebrating more than fifty years, Texas A&M University at Galveston is the maritime and marine campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.  It offers academic programs, research and service in marine sciences and technology, ocean engineering and maritime affairs.  The institution is home to the Texas A&M Maritime Academy the only maritime academy located on the Gulf Coast.

“This building will provide critically needed quality, state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories as well as relocating student services from a warehouse to this new facility,” said RADM Robert Smith III USN (Ret.) of Texas A&M University at Galveston.

The Texas A&M University System serves as managing partner on the project. Consultants include Houston-based architectural firm PGAL; Shah Smith & Associates; 4b Technology Group; structural engineers Henderson+Rogers Inc.; RFD; and landscape designer Wong & Associates.
