Now, Malone has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to build and advertise this website.
According to Malone, “Doublespeak is language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words. Doublespeak may take the form of euphemisms, such as ‘downsizing’ for layoffs or ‘servicing the target’ for bombing, in which case it is primarily meant to make the truth sound more palatable. It may also refer to intentional ambiguity in language or to actual inversions of meaning: for example, naming a state of war ‘peace’. In such cases, doublespeak disguises the nature of the truth. Doublespeak is most closely associated with political language.” The website is designed to give people a voice and to draw attention to the “doublespeak” of the current political climate.
General Doublespeak Limited is a website that offers monthly polls and will allow users to vote for the Doublespeak Politician, Doublespeak Journalist and Doublespeak Corporations of the year. A trophy will awarded to the winners in each group, and leaders will be updated each month. For the first year the candidates will be the same every month. Currently, the candidates include Doublespeak Politicians Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton; Doublespeak Journalist Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh; and Doublespeak Corporation Fracking Oil Companies and BP Oil. Each vote costs $1 USD.
