The Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) announces hosting of it’s first-ever NASA IT Procurement Opportunity Day.

The Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), the renowned and highly reputed networking organization that has been helping enterprises attract, retain and expand businesses through their services, has announced the hosting of its first ever NASA IT Procurement Opportunity Day. The event is expected to open up procurement business opportunities worth more than $4 billion for County businesses. It was held at the EDC H.Q. and saw participation of more than 125 County companies. The large gathering consisting of IT entrepreneurs from Prince George’s County, North Virginia and the surrounding areas was addressed by NASA Assistant Chief of Procurement Operations E. Anne Haase, and County Supplier Development and Diversity Division Executive Director Sharon Jackson.

“We are happy to see that the EDC County meeting with various business owners has been yielding amazing results as we can see from the significant growth in the County’s IT sector,” said EDC President and CEO Jim Coleman. “Today’s event is just the beginning of our continued outreach to assist the County’s small, local and minority businesses in participating in the more than $4 billion in procurement contracts that NASA and other federal agencies award every year. IT offers small businesses just the kind of opportunity they have been waiting for to take their businesses to the next level.”

Mayank Kapur, the Economic Development Director, specializing in information, communications and electronics was extremely enthusiastic about the event and was very upbeat about the incredible opportunities that the event could open up for businesses.

“The Economic Development Corporation is here to take small businesses to the moon! That’s why today we have connected them directly with the top contract officials at NASA,” states the Director about the event.  “IT companies from all over the region including D.C., Northern Virginia are flocking to Prince George’s County because they know there is immense potential available here to rocket their revenues.”

According to Economic Development Director, Mayank Kapur, a major portion of NASA Goddard’s budget enters the economy through funds pledged on contracts with commercial firms, educational and non-profit institutions, and other government agencies. By contributing more than $4 billion for local spending, NASA Goddard is in a position to significantly boost local, state, and national economies by creating and providing employment, contracting opportunities, technology development, community outreach, and public education.
